April AK Sessions Continue
By: Dana Flahr | Thursday, April 16, 2009
It has snowed somewhere between 8 and 12 feet in April so far in Haines. It's been a little extra challenging getting shots so far, because of the lack of flyable days, the amount of new snow, and the necessity of being patient in rowdy mountain range. However we have been out a day or two to shake the cob webs off our ski legs, and are starting to build some momentum.
We are staying positive too, and the opportunity to be with this dream team is motivation alone. Each rider brings amazing talent to the table. Seth's years of big mountain experience and lack of fear for jumping right into the AK gnar, Tanners video game-like skiing skills and balance on his skis like he was born with them, and Sage's unique and confident approach to rip anything AK has to offer him. This is a truly insane posse to be with, and when mother nature feels as though we are ready enough to get out amongst it, I have a feeling there will be some magic flying around.
Hopefully we will get into the mountains some more in the near future to continue our mission...

BC Backcountry Goods
By: Dana Flahr | Tuesday, April 07, 2009
March was an awesome month in Whistler. With the other TGR crew killing it in Alaska, Callum Petit, Shane Treat, cine Rick Johnston and photog Bryn Hughes and myself took advantage of good, stable snow, and sunny skies for a couple days in our dreamland we call home.
Callum is the new face on the scene, and the TGR team. He is hungry, skiing very well, and a great kid. It's nice to have fresh blood to shred with, and he offers a unique perspective on line choices and skiing style.
The new film Re:Session is quickly coming together with the TGR crews all over North America making it happen, one line and stomp at a time. We're in Alaska now, with Seth, Sage, Tanner, and myself. Stay posted for new AK news. We will have it as soon as we get out of our motel rooms into this big mountain paradise awaiting...
PS: Thanks to Shane Treat for all the photos.

Off Seaon Escapades
By: Dana Flahr | Friday, October 10, 2008
September 18-21, 2008:
There is a bunch of stuff that went down during these three days of celebration for completion of "Under The Influence", but here is a little glimpse of it from my perspective:
Day 1: Lobster at the top of the gondola at Jackson Hole. Tasty stuff, especially with the TGR ale, and a bunch of rad faces you haven't seen since you were all wearing goggles.
Day 2: Golf. Usually one of the only days in the year the smile never leaves my face. I suck at golf, but damn what a great sport. The highlights were:
-Josh Neilson driving us in the cart at full speed through 3 foot tall grass and weeds, to a near last place finish.
-Seeing Sammy go over a huge bump really fast and Dylan's forehead knocking out the plexi-glass windshield.
-Todd Jones' team winning, with a stanley cup-esque trophy hoist.
(Meanwhile during golf...)
Kye Petersen and Shane Treat decide to hike to the top of Twenot Peak instead of golfing. It's an 8 hour round trip hike. When they get down that night (after getting up at 5 am) Kye realizes he forgot his ice axe half way to the top. He makes plans to get it tomorrow...or the next day.
Day 3: Movie night. Under The Influence blows everyone away a couple times between 7 and 9, then we all head to the Moose for standard TGR apres. The rest is blurry...
Day 4: Kye needs to shake the hangover and hike back up Twenot and get his axe. He then eats one of the biggest breakfast food portions I've seen a person his size eat. An entire breakfast Burrito, a whole order of strawberry with whipped cream waffles, and a drink. Highly impressed.
We drop Kye off at the base of the mountain and while feeling hugover and bloated from too much food, he begins the hike solo, going pretty slow.
We get a call fom him later that evening, he found his ice axe, and it's mission completed. Now we sleep like rocks and get ready to travel tomorrow.
Time for some of us to go back to Canada, and others to go mountain biking and water ramping in Utah...stay tuned.

AK Withdrawl
By: Dana Flahr | Wednesday, April 30, 2008
Restless nights, bad motel coffee, and seemingly endless amounts of fear and anxiety. Man do I miss it.
I'm back in Pemberton BC now, where life is easy, and the air smells like spring. Mt.Currie is still caked in snow, and Blackcomb Mountain hasn't even thought about starting to melt. I just want to go back home, to my motel room at the Captain's Choice. Life was as simple as it gets. My room filled with ski gear, a skateboard on a PVC pipe, and music. That's all I need. Not to mention every single one of my neighbours in the motel were not only the world's best skiers, photographers, and cinematographers, but some of the coolest people to hang out with and kick around a soccer ball.
Here are a bunch of photos I've been staring at since I've been back, in a small attempt to take me back to a place that tought me more about everything than you would ever believe.

Winter Madness!
By: Dana Flahr | Tuesday, April 01, 2008
This winter has been sick. Dumping in BC, dumping in Jackson, dumping beyond fathomable in Baker, and I was lucky enough to have experienced a little taste of it all.
Recap- December, Whistler: Snow, ski, sleep, hike, snow, ski, sleep, hike, sun, ski, sleep. Eat, ski, sleep. The ski legs are back.
January: Ian McIntosh, Kye Petersen, Victoria Jealouse and I start chippin' away for "Under The Influence", the '08 TGR ski film. It's definately winter, and it's deep and cold. After a week of down time, we headed to Baker for 4 days of true realness. Don't bother going there though, it wasn't that good.
February: Still goin at it. The ball is rollin' and we are stoked. We've discovered tons of new terrain, and discovery alone keeps everything real exciting. The energy is high. After a week of no snow or sun, my spoiled nature of the season catches up to me. Like a true fiend, I fly to Jackson 24 hours later for another fix. Surprise: it's deep as shit and epic. Pumped to see all the Jackson boys, especially in the cold smoke!
March: A few more days in the BC backcountry and the shots are rollin' in for everybody. I'm heading to Terrace in a few days, then straight to AK for 6 weeks. The bags are packed: Ski gear, a few changes of clothes, passport, and music. It's life on the road for the next two months... so stay tuned.

Decency in BC
By: Dana Flahr | Wednesday, March 28, 2007
Well I have to say that whatever could have happened today, did happen. Blown up snowmobiles, rope rescues, dehydration, avalanches and quick sand. How can I make this quick... Well a few days in the Pemberton backcountry with a sick crew of people. Filmer Rick Johnston, photographer Bryn Hughes, athletes Victoria Jealouse, Eric Roner, Guy Deschenes (Snowboarder/Rooper/helper extraordinaire), Daryl Treadway and myself set out to go out and give 'er. We did that, and we also blew up Roner's sled, rescued Daryl off an insane cliff with ghetto McGiver'ed ropes, saw a decent sized avy follow me down the bottom of a line, and after all that, managed to get 'ol red stuck in some Pembe quicksand while trying to leave the place after a 12 hour day...

Exploring the Tordrillos
By: Dana Flahr | Monday, February 26, 2007
These are some photos I've taken in the last 10 days here in the Tordrilla mountains, Alaska. I'm here shooting with TGR, and exploring these mountains. There is a lot of ridiculous things out here to be seen, I'm learning. It's about minus twenty, and the snow couldn't be any drier. Many of the mountains we've been skiing have never been skiied before either... Enjoy (at least a little bit to as close as I have been)...
~ Dana
