Portillo!!!
By: Erik Roner | Thursday, September 04, 2008
I just returned from the Skiing Magazine 2008 South American Photo Challenge held in Portillo, Chile. 5 photographers are invited and each chooses an athlete to work with for a 5 day period. There are 5 main categories to photograph... powder, air, creative angle, lifestyle and big mountain. The final day each team put together a slide show to show case their work for judges and the community. The best of these photos will be published in the February issue of Skiing Magazine.
The competition was fierce and each team worked really hard in all conditions. At first the snow was hard pack but halfway through we were blessed with new snow and wind, changing the entire competition.
I had a great trip with a great group of riders and photographers. Each team had some amazing shots and I’m glad I do not have to judge the winner of each category. Make sure to check out the February issue of Skiing Magazine to see all the hard work.

Tahoe!
By: Erik Roner | Monday, February 11, 2008
Due to all the reports of crazy snow in Tahoe, Dana Flahr and I decided to make the drive from Jackson to check it out! We were not disappointed. I could not believe the size of the snow banks when we arrived in town.
The first night it snowed over 20 inches….we had a scheduled early ups at Squaw but we couldn't get out of our driveway. It was like old Tahoe where people actually get snowed in!

Whistler, eh?
By: Erik Roner | Tuesday, November 27, 2007
Due to the lack of snow in the lower 48 I headed up North to visit the Canadians. I made it for opening day at Blackcomb and skied some great snow. Whistler Blackcomb is off to another great start this season. The Alpine is not 100% open yet which allowed us to hike all over the upper mountain and ski lines that are permanently closed when all the lifts are open.
Hopefully we will get some snow soon here in the states!

Early Season in Little Cottonwood
By: Erik Roner | Monday, October 29, 2007
On October 19th, after Little Cottonwood had been hit with snow again, I made the trek to Utah to get in some early turns. Super early season is one of my favorite times because you can hike wherever you want. All the lines have much less snow and many new features. It is a great way to get in shape and start the season.
I ended up skiing the next 6 days straight. There were a ton of riders out taking advantage of the early season snow. I made turns with Dash, Pep, Sage, Chris Collins and many others stoked to be out in the mountains again.
The forecast is not looking promising and we will probably have to wait for winter to return. Even if that was a tease it was a really good one!

Sending it with Pastrana....
By: Erik Roner | Wednesday, May 16, 2007
Last week I went to the Grand Canyon with Travis Pastrana and Godfrey Films for the new Nitro Circus film “Thrill Billies”. In all, we BASE jumped 8 dirt bikes into the Canyon off 3 separate ramps. Travis was doing triple back flips and corked sevens. I cannot even begin to describe how much fun we had!
Afterwards, we headed to lake Powell for some more filming and jumping. We had a house boat, Cig boat, ski boat and jet skis. The Nitro Circus Crew does it right.

What Planet are we on?
By: Erik Roner | Sunday, April 22, 2007
We set out to do some snowmobile skiing, but somehow the day turned into an all-out, fuel and alcohol inspired redneck fest. With the putrid smell of two-stroke stuck to our lungs we decided to eat some $5 burgers and watch $40,000 snowmobiles mach up the 50 degree mountain. So much testosterone was flowing!
We watched with moments of amazement and moments of uncontrollable laughter. Every type of snowmobiler was out today, from super pro guy to the guy wearing a matching duck hunting suit from the Canadian Tire.
The prize went to the best high mark, and for the riders, it was a 100% commitment once they punch the throttle. They were climbing steep exposed lines that didn't seem possible. We were blown away by the hill climbs and even more blown away by all the "colorful" people in the middle of nowhere. What a day.

Hangin with the Canadians, eh.
By: Erik Roner | Wednesday, March 28, 2007
After watching the 50° temperature melt the snow in Jackson Hole I decided to visit Dana Flahr and Ian McIntosh in Whistler, B.C. I arrived and skied in the rain for a few days before we got lucky, and the skies went blue. These Canadians have access to such amazing terrain when the conditions permit. We sledded and shredded lines for 3 days before we were all beat down.
These boys are hungry and skiing better than I have ever seen them. Forecast is looking good and we are all stoked to get back out there and send it!

Photo Booth
By: Erik Roner | Friday, March 16, 2007
During our down days at the Tordrillo mountain lodge we discovered the
genius program “Photo Booth”. The program comes installed on our Apple
Laptops and resulted in hours of fun!
